Church – Carbondale, CO
This church is located in Carbondale Colorado and consists of a large multi-story structure. The roof and exterior siding materials vary per building elevation. The roof facets vary in elevation, pitch, material and aspect. Accurately capturing all of the roof facets and eave lines took a methodical approach and careful flight planning. The wooden architectural trellis features and large steel cross at the front entry required ATDS to fly close to each of the features with the drone to capture all of details. The sophisticated drone units that ATDS uses have on-board omnidirectional obstacle avoidance systems and will automatically stop the drone if it detects it is getting too close to an object. In order to get closer to objects for better detail, ATDS can deactivate these systems which then requires a pilot who has a mastery of the flight controls. Not only must a drone pilot have spatial awareness in multiple 3 dimensional space, they have to also simultaneously have their focus on the camera and gimbal setting to ensure they are capturing quality images.
The underside of the west facing eave and large wooden truss features are shown were too high to capture with the terrestrial rover and so ATDS captured this area with their DJI drone. Again, to capture this level of detail requires methodical flight planning and an ace pilot on the flight controls. The photos herein are screen shots from our DJI Terra model.
