The FAA is cracking down with their drone regulations for commercial use. As of 2016 the FAA requires the Certification 107 for all commercial drone use. Those rules were updated in January 2021 to further detail who does or doesn’t need their Cert. 107. Essentially, anytime a drone is used for, or perceived as being used for, revenue generating purposes you are required by Federal Law to get your FAA certification 107. Recent articles released by drone industry go-to sources say that the use of drones is ever growing to the point where Local law enforcement around the country are being trained on how to approach drone operators and pose the appropriate questions regarding drone use. Additionally, as of September 16, 2023 all commercial drones are required to carry “Remote ID” (although the FAA admits they will not enforce or ticket people until March 2024). Remote ID is effectively an electronic license plate for your drone. You will be able to spot a drone in the sky, access an FAA website and see exactly who that drone belongs to. Additionally, a good portion of the Roaring Fork, Eagle, and Grand Valleys abut to US Forest Service lands.
